Immunizations

New River Community Health Care Center and the Florida Department of Health in Union County

Program Description

Vaccines to prevent serious and/or deadly diseases are one of the great successes of the 20th century.  Vaccine-preventable diseases are at the lowest levels ever.

It is essential that immunizations be administered on schedule to ensure that children are protected from vaccine preventable childhood diseases. Children begin receiving vaccinations at about 2 months of age.  By time they are 2 years old, they should have received a series of immunizations protecting them against a variety of disease, which include Polio, Diphtheria, Pertussis (whooping cough), Tetanus, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (chicken pox) and Haemophilus (HIB).

Required immunizations are available to all children up through age 18.  In addition, Florida law requires all children be immunized before attending daycare or school.  All immunization records are reviewed by a school nurse prior to children entering school.
