School Health

New River Community Health Care Center and the Florida Department of Health in Union County

The School Health Program at the Florida Department of Health in Union County is dedicated to caring for our children by keeping students healthy and ready to learn. School Health Services are provided in Union County through a collaborative effort between the Union County School District and Florida Department of Health in Union County. They provide daily care for those students requiring medication and for students who become injured or sick during the school day.

Our Registered Nurses conduct annual health screenings for vision, hearing, scoliosis, and body mass index (BMI). We refer students who fail these screenings and follow-up with their referrals throughout the school year. We check every student's immunizations to make sure they are compliant with current requirements for school entry. We work closely with students who have special health needs such as asthma, diabetes, allergies, etc. and help develop care plans for use during the school day. We also teach health classes to students in elementary to high school.
