Biomedical waste must be disposed of according to federal, state, and local regulations. Used needles and other contaminated sharps must be placed in a puncture-resistant, leak-proof container that is closable.

The Florida Department of Health in Union County (DOH-Union) facilitates a Sharps Disposal Program for residential clients. The Sharps Disposal Program is designed to provide individuals who use sharps at home a place for proper disposal for free. This program is not for commercial use.

Sharps containers may be picked up and dropped off at DOH-Union in Lake Butler.
